The Richmond Royale is operated by Turks of Richmond, a famous family firm that has been in business since 1710 and may well have supplied Turner with boats he took on his painting and fishing trips.
Turner was born by the river and he died by the river. The Thames ran through his life, especially the Arcadian stretch around Richmond, which he discovered as a 10-year-old schoolboy living in Brentford. He rented houses at Hammersmith and Isleworth, built a villa at Twickenham, and spent many hours afloat studying the landscape, which he would adapt for some of his best known pictures of classical subjects. This talk will highlight the places on the river that Turner knew and loved.
This talk by the author of A Year of Turner and the Thames will highlight the places on the river that Turner knew and loved.
With a specifically designed ramp, the vessel is suitable for manual wheelchair users (please advise in advance).
