With Christmas approaching and 2016 drawing to an end, we thought we'd bring you a round-up of the best things to do on and along the Thames.

1. Take a plunge in cold waters and raise money for Crisis

Ok yes it’s not a swim in the River Thames, but its a polar plunge at Brockwell Lido to help end homelessness with Crisis. You can choose a solo splash, chill with friends or challenge them to an icy team relay race! Join hundreds of fancy dress clad swimmers for a great cause.

2. Winter Riverside Stroll
Fri 16 Dec, Strand-on-the-Green 

Get down on the foreshore with the Thames Discover team for a walk along the Thames Path at Strand-on-the-Green, Chiswick to start your archaeology adventure - who knows what you'll find? 

3.  Thames Rockets: Jingle Bell Blast  
Until Sat 31 Dec

It’s the most exciting, super-sleigh ride adventure with a special guest to greet you at the pier, you’ll be sent beholding gifts onto the speedboat and singing carols all the way during your journey through London.  

4. A Peninsula Christmas at Greenwich
Until Thu 22 Dec, Greenwich Peninsula

Get down to the Greenwich Peninsula to experience the Winter Festival packed with artist markets, an Enchanted Forest, Scandinavian-inspired Tepee Snug Bar, Santa’s Grotto and lots of performances!  

5. River Lates on MBNA Thames Clippers
Thu 8, 15 and 22 Dec 

Sail through London’s sparkling city lights while acoustic musicians on board fill the cabin with Pop, Folk, Soul or Rock n Roll melodies. 

6. Grimm Beginnings 
Mon 12 – Thu 15 Dec, Brunel Museum

Even once upon a time had to start somewhere…This winter come and preview this new enchanting piece of theatre featuring the magical characters of Grimm in the atmospheric subterranean space at the Brunel Museum.

7. Sail with Santa with City Cruises
Until Sat 24 Dec 

Santa’s swapped his sleigh for a boat this year, so why not take your little ones or the young at heart to meet him afloat! Sail down the River Thames with lots of festive fun, plus adults can console themselves for growing up with a glass of mulled wine, mince pie or champagne!
