In beautiful garden surroundings, have fun helping eco-artist Candy Medusa to construct an art installation from beach litter collected locally by volunteers.

Candy Medusa is an artist and marine biologist, and in 2016 sailed the Caribbean with the eXXpedition project, as Resident Artist aboard the Sea Dragon, sampling for ocean plastics and raising awareness of marine plastic pollution and its impact on wildlife, the environment, and ourselves. Candy Medusa’s eXXhibition project evolved from her residency with eXXpedition, as a way to further raise this awareness through public engagement with art, running beach cleans and upcycling workshops, upcycling collected beach litter into art; and giving presentations on marine plastic pollution.

eXXpedition are currently sailing round Britain, undertaking the first continuous sampling of all the waters around Britain, and the eXXhibition art installation at Hermitage Memorial Gardens takes place whilst Sea Dragon is berthed at neighbouring Hermitage Community Moorings.

eXXhibition gives people the chance to see first-hand the type of litter that is washed into our rivers and seas, and the proportion that is single-use plastic such as drinking straws, bags, disposable cutlery, cotton bud sticks etc, and to learn about the effect of plastic pollution on the ocean, and what we can all do to reduce it.
